Role Overview:
We are looking for an Environments Manager who will play a critical role in the success of our software development lifecycle, particularly focusing on the management of software releases and the maintenance of our AWS environments. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire release process, ensuring that software deployments are executed smoothly and efficiently, aligning with the company's strategic goals. Your expertise in AWS will be crucial in managing and optimizing cloud environments, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and dependable.
Your role involves a deep understanding of both the technical and business aspects of software releases. You will collaborate closely with our DevOps, Solution Architects, Development and Application Support Teams to support and improve the overall quality of software development throughout the entire lifecycle, synchronizing efforts to ensure that software is released on time, within budget, and with the highest quality.
You will also be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks associated with software releases and environment management. By implementing best practices and maintaining rigorous documentation, you will ensure that the release and environment processes are transparent, repeatable, and efficient.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Maintain consolidated views of the status, availability, capacity, forecasted demand and fulfilment plans for environments and tools
* Estimate, plan and track tasks and deliver these against agreed cost, schedule and quality levels
* Track changes to the environments whilst utilising a robust dedicated change management process for the test environments that links to the production change processes
* Define and manage a roadmap and plan to keep our capability aligned to the forecasted demand and realise improvement opportunities
* Develop, monitor and enforce release management processes and policies to ensure the smooth and successful release of software deployments
* Act as the gatekeeper to the production environment, ensuring conformance to Change Management and operational processes/procedures, release integration testing and production validation
* Developing and maintaining the forward plan of release schedules across the organisation and its subcontractors
* Collaboration and co-ordination with the service delivery and support teams for the day-to-day management of environments and tools, as well as progression of software releases
* Developing and implementing strategies to optimise AWS cloud usage and identify cost-saving opportunities
* Identify and realise opportunities that simplify and automate the activities which are needed to provision, configure and manage environments and tools
* Identify technical and obsolescence risks which will impact the availability/supportability of environments and tools and take ownership of mitigating these risks
* Ensure environments and tools management practices align with agreed configuration management practices and wider disaster recovery and business continuity plans
* Maintain awareness of industry best practice, standards and trends to inform environment management strategy, processes, practices and technologies
* Management of licensed software products in line with the wider business policies and processes
* To support and deputise for the Change Manager
Skills Required:
* Experience within Environments Management, Change Management and Release Management adopting an ITIL based framework
* Change and Release Management understanding of both Agile and Waterfall project releases
* Excellent communication and leadership skills with experience managing an effective, end-to-end platform deployment service across development, test and production teams.
* Strong organisational skills; ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands
* Proven ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders across all levels of an organisation
* Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on operational deliverables
* To be innovative and continuously looking to improve processes through leveraging the latest tools and technologies available in AWS
* Driving the adoption of CI/CD methodologies, automating processes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
Skills Desired:
* ITIL certification within Release Management
* Project Management certification
* AWS or Cloud experience
Clearance Requirements:
* Pre-screening to Start BPSS
* Clearance for Role SC
* Must possess or be able to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance
