The Intensive Care Unit is a purpose-built state-of-the-art 48-bedded unit within one of the UK’s first £450 million super-hospitals, achieving excellent outcomes including some of the highest trauma survival rates in the country.
* Our unit features two high-fidelity simulation suites, allowing for immediate skills training led by a multi-disciplinary team of clinical education experts.
* We offer those joining us a new challenge in a forward-thinking environment, supported by a robust orientation and structured development pathway tailored to both experienced nurses and those new to ICU.
* As one of the busiest Major Trauma centres in the UK, we are also a regional centre for neurosurgery, vascular surgery, urology, spinal surgery, renal as well as burns and plastics.
* We have also recently gained High Consequence Infectious Disease status for the South-West region.
We currently have opportunities available for:
* Experienced Registered Nurses with current live NMC registration
* Newly Qualified and Newly Qualifying Nurses who have completed a placement in ICU, ready to take the leap from theory to the clinical setting!
Main duties of the job
Working within our department, your main duties will include:
* Providing direct patient care to Intensive care patients, being responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care of patients
* Identifying individual patient requirements and acting effectively on changing needs, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
* Organising time, equipment, and staff to deliver safe and efficient patient care.
* Giving skilled support to medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Administering drugs and treatments as prescribed in accordance with Trust Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
* Demonstrating effective communication within departments and multidisciplinary team.
* Advising patients, their carers, and other staff on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
* Recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individual and instituting preventative measures.
* Identifying the priorities of care for patients, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
* Organising and participating in the delivery of high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration (RGN) or Part 12 (RN Adult Branch)
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Teaching and assessing qualification (teaching and assessing in practice or equivalent) or willing to undertake
Work Experience
* At least 12 months recent, post-registration experience in an acute general setting (ward area) or NQN who has completed an ICU placement
* Minimum of 12 months experience in an ICU setting
* Currently working in a Critical Care environment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
* Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and the multidisciplinary team
* Computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to organise own workload, time management/Basic Problem-solving skills
