The Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sewing Machinist to join the production team in our Congleton Silk Studio. Applicants need to have previous experience of operating industrial sewing machines and overlockers, preferably in previous employment.
You will be involved in the manufacturing and final preparation of garments before they go to retail. Our Silk Studio is responsible for producing high-quality silk garments; previous experience working with silk as well as knowledge of garment construction would be preferable. Excellent communication and organisation skills are required for the level of detailed work we produce. Measuring products throughout the production process to ensure the finished product is accurate and up to a specific standard as checked by our quality control examiners.
Additional elements to the role can range from sample production each season through to web customer requested alterations. We also have an increasing demand for personalisation; therefore, training on multi-needle embroidery machines and PC software will be given as part of the role.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Putting garments together using various sewing machines – e.g., lockstitch, overlocker, binding, felling, buttons, and buttonholes.
2. Following order sheets for fabric, colour, size, and trim instructions.
3. Altering machinery to match different fabric properties – silk and cashmere.
4. Constructing garments to a high standard – matching to specifications.
5. Knowledge of garment making and construction.
6. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
8. To be a team player and work well under pressure.
9. To use initiative with a good eye for detail.
10. Embrace technology and help to identify elements for improvement.
The position is full time Monday – Thursday 8am-5pm with Friday 8am -2pm.
