Transport Planner
The Role:
The Transport Planner is responsible for coordinating the delivery of hire and sale orders, and collections for off hired equipment. Utilising internal drivers and vehicles where possible, providing efficient routes for each driver. Supporting the Transport supervisor in managing the driver and vehicles, along maintaining all legal and company compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery & Collection
1. Allocate each delivery and collection to the driver schedule on the requested dates, in line with the regional delivery days.
2. Routing drivers with an understanding of customer requirements for delivery or collection times, ensuring all Barhale sites have PDIs prior to any attendance on site.
3. Ensure deliveries and collections allocated to drivers are within the vehicle weight limit and capacity.
4. Feedback to the sales team where deliveries are unable to be allocated to drivers on requested date, and where we are able to bring forward deliveries and collections.
5. Ensure miscellaneous transport requests are logged on the depot schedule for routing and tracking, including IT requests, Safety ad hoc requests and Fabrication delivery and collections.
6. Liaise with customers to book drivers into sites and confirm lifting capabilities where required.
7. Maintain the average awaiting collection days to the agreed SLA or below.
Operational
1. Print and check paperwork daily and issue to the drivers. Send paperwork to external hauliers as required.
2. Monitor the performance of BCS delivery drivers and feedback to the Depot Supervisor and Operations Manager.
3. Ensuring all driver compliance documentation is completed accurately and on time.
Commercial
1. Liaise with preferred external haulage companies for all requirements outside our vehicle capabilities. Obtain multiple quotations where possible to ensure best price is achieved.
2. Monitor performance of suppliers and feedback to the Depot Supervisor and Operations Manager.
3. Utilise the daily courier service where necessary.
4. Follow up all courier deliveries to ensure they have been completed within the requested date and time.
5. Request a downgrade of delivery service and charge where specified delivery times have not been met.
6. Liaise with the Sales Team on all delayed deliveries.
HSEQ
1. Complete tasks in accordance with risk assessments, notify the Team Leader of any potential noncompliance.
2. Report accidents and Positive Interventions using the correct methods.
3. Ensure the correct PPE is used at all times.
4. Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping, ensuring areas are free from waste and trip hazards.
5. Identify/Submit positive interventions where needed.
6. Work in conjunction with HSEQ policies and procedures.
7. Understand current regulations in regards to Working Time Directives, EU Drivers Hours and GB Domestic Hours Rules, to deliver our service in line with current legislation.
8. Providing assistance to drivers to resolve vehicle defects, sign off defect sheets and keep accurate records for future reference.
9. Working with the Depot Supervisor and Transport Manager, ensure drivers and vehicles operate within the standards set out in FORS.
Quality
1. Ensure works are carried out in accordance with processes.
2. Contribute to continuous improvement by providing suggestions and feedback to Team Leaders and Management.
3. Work to agreed timescales updating the Team Leader on progress. Maintain good communication with Team Leaders and Management at all times.

Person Specification:
The successful candidate is likely to meet all of the following criteria:
Essential
1. Previous experience routing delivery and collections for a fleet of vehicles
2. Ability to plan / schedule vehicles efficiently and effectively
3. Good knowledge and understanding of UK road network
4. Computer literate
5. Polite, calm & professional manner with excellent customer service skills
6. Product knowledge of supplies, signs, safety and tools
7. Driving licence
Desirable
1. Product knowledge of specialist hire equipment and Fabrications materials and structures
2. Previous Transport Compliance experience
