With the recent publication of the new National Planning Policy Framework, it is an exciting time to be a policy planner. Working as part of a team of professional officers you will help to fulfil the Council’s strategic corporate priorities. You will assist with the preparation of the Local Plan, a key document in the delivery of sustainable growth across the district, and other development plan documents.
Additional responsibility at the top of grade:
As a Senior Planning Policy Officer, you will have the day-to-day responsibility for the preparation and delivery of the Local Plan, including the preparation and delivery of evidence. You will enable communities to have a say in the future of the places where they live and work by supporting the preparation of Neighbourhood Plans.

The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to:
* Give advice and assistance to the planning team, the rest of the Council and qualifying bodies for the purpose of, or in connection with, facilitating the making of proposals for Neighbourhood Plans within the district.
* Day to day responsibility for the preparation and delivery of the Local Plan for South Kesteven, Neighbourhood Plans and other related planning documents.
* Support the team in the production of evidence base documents, including the management of consultants.
* Involvement in the preparation of Development Plan Documents in accordance with statutory requirements, including consultation and publicity arrangements.
* Support the preparation of consultation responses to national planning proposals.
* Support the preparation of responses to consultations under the Council’s Duty to Cooperate, or the like.
* Support and encourage community engagement in development planning.
* Ensure the Council’s planning interests are promoted, having regard to the plans and proposals of adjoining authorities.
* Provide a planning policy input, especially from a Neighbourhood Plan perspective, to corporate initiatives and projects.
* Undertake GIS mapping to support the Local Plan and other development plan documents. Prepare written representations and to attend examination hearings with respect to development planning.
* Reply to general correspondence, emails and answering telephone queries on neighbourhood planning and general planning matters in accordance with service timescales.
* Attend meetings with qualifying bodies, the general public and Elected Members as required, providing advice and guidance on Neighbourhood Plans and all relevant development planning issues.
* Provide support to the Planning Policy Manager in the preparation of documentation for consideration by Cabinet and Council.
* Contribute to projects and initiatives to improve the delivery of the Planning Team. Provide appropriate coaching/mentoring support to junior officers.
This position is a mix of office and home based working.
