Location: Can be based at any of the main offices (Salford, Glasgow, London, Belfast, Cardiff). This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.
Salary: £59,500 - £70,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Purpose
We are seeking a Safety Manager (SSR Manager) within the Quality Risk and Assurance division for this permanent role, based at one of our Tier 1 sites (London, Bristol, Cardiff, Salford, Glasgow, Belfast).
As the Safety Manager you will lead the team of Safety Advisors and Safety Specialists to enable, coach and assure the BBC to manage its safety risks successfully and benefit from a mature safety culture.
You should have experience in leading a team in providing 2nd line safety services for a creative and fast-paced industry, and being capable of drawing on knowledge from across health & safety regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Safety Manager is responsible for the following:
1. Developing and leading a team that can deliver a high performing 2nd line function, and to be a leader and expert in Safety for the BBC and the wider industry.
2. Continually review and improve the services BBC Safety provides to ensure we are giving the BBC the best and most relevant service possible.
3. The role is responsible for quality assuring the service that the team deliver and driving high standards and consistency of service to the organisation, aligning the team to the BBC's values and strategy.
4. The role is responsible for developing, reviewing and publishing guidance, Policy and arrangements, assurance and data.
5. You will bring a clear vision of what good looks like in a central (corporate) safety function and are able to coach others to be excellent in their work.
6. NOTE: This role is not responsible for the Safety team in BBC Studios but is required to coordinate and collaborate with the Safety Manager of BBC Studios Safety to ensure effective group-wide safety provision.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
To be successful in this role you will need:
1. Management experience, with evidence of assisting in the shaping and driving of the delivery of safety strategies, and to be great at coaching and leading both the safety team and the business.
2. Flexibility, innovation, inspiring; we're looking for someone who is able to lead a team to deliver top class safety services with a clear focus on high performance and improving the safety in the work.
3. In-depth knowledge and experience of relevant legislation, codes of practice, guidance and operating procedures across safety.
4. Ability to analyse and contextualise complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical and simple plans to resolve problems.
5. Effective interpersonal, management and communication skills, including the ability to write and present clear and concise professional communications to a range of audiences at all levels of the BBC.
6. NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
7. CMIOSH (or equivalent), or demonstrably working towards.
