Sinara Consultants is actively seeking proficient, versatile, and curious application or systems engineers to join our technical operations team.
A key purpose of the role is to provide technical support for our Sinara-built applications 24 hours a day, as such the position involves working beyond standard business hours, on a shift pattern rotating between late evenings, overnight and daytime shifts.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining our mission-critical applications, delivering both primary and secondary application management support within our cloud-based and on-premise environments, as well as providing third-line technical support for Sinara software applications to a variety of customers.
The role is remote although you must be based in the UK.
About the Role:
The role entails active monitoring, maintenance and incident support of Sinara software applications for our clients operationally beyond standard business hours.
Additionally, the role involves analysing, prioritising, and resolving customer support incidents, which may be for cloud-hosted or on-premise client applications. These incidents could relate to applications, data, or systems.
Another facet of the role will be involvement in some of the department's large-scope projects, for example building internal environments with Kubernetes or implementing AWS security configurations.
Primary duties include:
Systems and Application Management:
· Ensuring operational performance of our applications and environments
· Monitoring dashboards
· Overnight monitoring checks of the internal infrastructure
· Maintaining our Linux server estate and services
· Performing routine data or system configuration tasks
· Deploying, managing and updating AWS services and other cloud platforms
· Administering containerisation tools and orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
Incident Management:
· Resolving issues related to applications and environments
· Analysing, prioritising and triaging incidents reported by customers
· Conducting investigations to provide solutions or temporary workarounds
· Collaborating with developers upon identification of potential software defects
· Communicating with customers until incident resolution
· Transitioning issues to the standard-hours application support team
Additional responsibilities encompass:
· Proactively updating support materials
· Contributing to customer service performance reports
· Documenting routine change requests
· Participating in application testing throughout the full test lifecycle.
The work is often technically demanding and requires an imaginative thought process. You will collaborate with Sinara's own software development teams.
The shifts
A key purpose of the role is to fulfil our duty to provide technical support services for our applications 24 hours a day. As such the position involves working beyond standard business hours.
The role makes up the 3rd member of a team of fellow multi-shift engineers who together seamlessly cover the 24 hours split across 3 shifts: late evenings (5:30pm to 01:30am), overnight (12:30am to 8:30am) and flexible daytime shifts. The shifts rotate on approximately monthly basis and all multi-shift engineers are required to be available to fulfil any shifts with notice.
Currently we support clients 24/5 but we expect this to develop into 24/7 support.
Your Skillset:
Essential
Demonstrating a solid general knowledge of IT concepts (Windows, Linux, networking, VMs, databases) along with a good understanding of AWS deployments, and administration of containerisation tools and orchestration platforms is essential.

Desired
Experience in working during out-of-business hours shifts, focusing on maintaining cloud-hosted environments and software applications.
It would be beneficial to have knowledge in:

· Terraform
· PostgreSQL (SQLserver, MySql)
· Interpreting and troubleshooting log files
· Networking

This position has a focus on cloud infrastructure specialisation, where you will be expected to evolve into a subject matter expert within the organisation. Comprehensive training will be provided as needed.
Sinara will provide training on industry/domain-specific topics and applications.
There will be opportunities to join wider technical training offered within Sinara.
Certification training is supported at Sinara where it is relevant to the role.

Working hours:
This position is full-time, requiring 35 to 45 hours of work per week (depending on the shift). The hours will average out at 37.5 over the course of all shift rotations.
