An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant appliance technician to work within our brand new workshop based at North Shields. This role will require the successful candidate to become competent in the manufacture of a wide range of orthoses including simple insoles and more complex moulded devices for the Podiatry Service.
The job will also entail day to day administrative duties associated with the provision of this service including stock control, ordering and managing tasks in SystmOne (our computer based administration system). This will allow for the receipt of prescriptions from clinical members of staff which will need to be interpreted and fabricated for use on the patient. All this must be achieved whilst ensuring that health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

• Understand and interpret clinical prescriptions received by task on SystmOne using own initiative and skills to manufacture accurate and effective orthoses.
• Manufacture a wide range of professional quality foot orthoses ensuring attention to detail.
• Decide on whether prescriptions are suitable for manufacture and liaise with the Podiatry Appliance Technician/Biomechanics Specialist Podiatrist and/or the prescribing clinician to determine modifications or alternatives.
• Seek further clarification of prescriptions that are unclear or vague, giving appropriate reasons.

• Register orthotic prescriptions using SystmOne task system.
• Adhere to departmental procedures to ensure that all prescriptions are traceable throughout the production process.
• Supply information to the podiatry Musculoskeletal (MSK) team concerning orthotic production.
• Ensure that all advisory information, including instructions for use, accompanies the orthotic upon dispatch.
• Organise personal workload to fulfil departmental production aims.
• Maintain adequate stock levels, re-ordering as required.
• Send appliance materials to podiatrists as required.
• Record, assess and where required, provide production information.
• Adhere to all Trust and departmental polices and understand procedures and guidelines.
• Actively participate in team meetings and work well under the guidance of a Podiatry Appliance Technician.
• Be willing to work towards attaining a qualification in appliance/orthotic manufacture.
