What the school offers its staff
Music Department
The Music department at Shafton has 2 very well-resourced rooms with a suite of macs and keyboards (running garageband), and class sets of guitars and ukuleles. We also have 5 well resourced practice rooms.
We want Music lessons at Shafton to be really practical in nature. Throughout the trust, the vast majority of music lessons are about listening to, making or playing music. We want each lesson to be a really enriching experience that sets students on a path of a lifelong love of Music.
We have been teaching the Pearson Tech award in Music but have now moved to EDUQAS GCSE from this September. Results have been traditionally strong in the music department over a number of years.
You will join a highly experienced music department that offers a wealth of expertise and experience led by an experienced Head of Faculty with 19 years experience working in secondary schools in the Barnsley area and an experienced Assistant Principal who as well as being an experienced music teacher and musician is also the department SLT link offering a unique opportunity for support, development and experience.
Teaching and learning is exceptionally led across the academy by a team of experienced SLT team and middle leaders who ensure a curriculum for our students which will set them up for lifelong success.
The continuing professional development of staff is important here at Outwood Academy Shafton. Staff have access to a wide range of CPD, including a number of one-off sessions.
