The Role
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic scientist with experience of working in a laboratory environment. The role will be within biology casework, requiring examination of exhibits for blood/BPA, Semen, Saliva, Cellular material and recovering of contingency evidence. The candidate will be expected to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as well as defined strategies from the Reporting Officer’s. Shift work, On-call working and Bank Holiday cover will be a requirement of the Examiner role upon completing the required training.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Examinations of variety of exhibits to standard operating procedure requirements and required turnaround times
2. Laboratory and exhibit management
3. Complete training, self-study and maintain set KPIs and competences
4. Reporting in accordance with set turnaround times
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
Essential
5. At least one year work experience ideally in a laboratory setting
6. Demonstrate good organisational skills
7. Have high levels of resilience and flexibility and the ability to work to deadlines
8. Demonstrate ownership of issues and their resolution
9. Communicate and work proactively with others (both colleagues and customers), focussing on a collective goal
10. Embrace continuous improvement projects with active involvement
11. Ability to work in a highly stressful situations and dealing with details of distressing cases.
Preferred
12. Degree level education
13. Driving licence
14. Previous work experience in a commercial forensic setting

Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK.
