About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manufacturing Engineer with experience in complex electro-mechanical products, bespoke capital machinery, etc., and a strong background in systems engineering to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of production processes and quality assurance, and the ability to generate comprehensive test documentation and detailed test parameters from given specifications.
This role is critical in ensuring that our manufacturing and testing processes meet the highest industry standards, driving efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement across our operations.
Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Process Engineering
1. Lead the development and optimisation of manufacturing processes to improve quality, cost, and efficiency.
2. Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting support for production issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
3. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the assembly process, including providing inputs to the Non Conformance process where appropriate.
4. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and production teams, to ensure smooth product transition from design to manufacturing.
5. Participate in engineering design reviews to offer feedback on manufacturability and testability.
6. Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with ISO standards, industry regulations, and company quality requirements.
7. Lead and supervise the assembly of products, ensuring that all components are assembled correctly and according to engineering drawings and specifications.
8. Working with production planning, manage the workflow of the assembly team to meet production schedules and deadlines.
Test Documentation & Parameters
1. Develop and maintain detailed test documentation that clearly defines test procedures, acceptance criteria, and best practices.
2. Define comprehensive test parameters based on specifications, ensuring all key performance indicators (KPIs) and safety requirements are met.
3. Establish what 'good' looks like for test documentation, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and completeness.
4. Collaborate with design engineers to validate test procedures and optimise test efficiency.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
1. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Root Cause Analysis.
2. Ensure robust quality control measures are in place throughout the production process.
3. Lead failure analysis investigations, using statistical tools to improve reliability and manufacturability.
4. Support supplier development programs to ensure high-quality components and materials are used in production.
5. Continuously review and optimize assembly and commissioning processes to increase efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimise waste.
6. Propose and implement process improvements, including the introduction of new technologies or tools, to enhance productivity and product quality.
7. Lead initiatives to implement process improvements.
Systems Engineering Focus
1. Apply mechanical & electrical engineering principles to support the development, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems within manufacturing.
2. Work with systems engineering principles to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components in complex products.
3. Develop test rigs, fixtures, and automation tools to improve manufacturing efficiency and product validation.
Collaboration & Leadership
1. Supervise & lead a small team of manufacturing & assembly staff (circa 3).
2. Act as a mentor and technical resource for junior engineers and production teams.
3. Collaborate with design teams to provide manufacturing feedback during product development.
4. Work closely with suppliers, customers, and external partners to resolve technical issues and improve overall production quality.
5. Support the implementation of new technologies and manufacturing strategies to enhance company capabilities.
Key Requirements
Education & Experience
1. Degree (or higher) in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field or HNC / HND with relevant experience.
2. 5+ years of experience in a relevant field of manufacturing.
3. Experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment, such as Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, Capital Machinery, or Electronics industries, is highly desirable.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
1. Strong understanding of manufacturing/assembly processes.
2. Previous line management, supervisory or leadership experience of a small team of manufacturing & assembly staff.
3. Expertise in electrical testing, troubleshooting, and analysis of components and systems.
4. Ability to read, interpret, and generate detailed test documentation, specifications, and engineering drawings.
5. Knowledge of good quality engineering processes.
6. Functional knowledge of PLC / Software integration.
7. Design and maintenance of custom test fixtures, testing tools, and automated testing systems.
Soft Skills & Competencies
1. Excellent attention to detail and ability to define and implement clear, structured test documentation.
2. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyse complex technical issues.
3. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
