We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our ward-based clinical team.
We welcome applications from experienced and newly registered Pharmacy Technicians who have the qualities to fulfil the requirements of this role.
We are looking for somebody with a friendly demeanour and excellent interpersonal skills which enable you to work well with other healthcare professionals. Confidence to use your own initiative is required, as well as problem-solving skills and the enjoyment from working as part of a team.
Post is Band 4/5 depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Medicines Optimisation team, you will provide an effective, integrated ward-based pharmacy service.
* Undertake medicines reconciliation reviews on all newly admitted inpatients.
* Liaise with ward teams to ensure patient safety.
* Manage an effective system to ensure efficient and economic provision of stock.
* Support the dispensary and other areas of pharmacy to ensure timely provision of medicines for patients.
* Undertake mandatory audits and data collection.
* Assist in the training and development of pre-registration technicians and other pharmacy staff.
* As an Accredited Checking Technician, you will participate in the rota for final accuracy check of dispensed items for both inpatients and outpatients.

Job responsibilities
* Advise nursing and other ward/department staff on supply and storage of medicines, stock control, and any other relevant information to ensure compliance with local policies and procedures.
* Co-ordinate the provision of medicines on discharge, dispensing simple prescriptions on the ward.
* Prioritise workload for the ward, oversee the process through the dispensary and ensure timely delivery.
* Ensure that additional medicines are not dispensed unnecessarily on discharge, e.g., by ascertaining if the patient has more supplies at home.
* Manage an effective system to ensure the efficient and economic provision of stock medicines, avoiding unnecessary supply and, where possible, recycling any medicines that are no longer needed.
* Where appropriate, provide a ward top-up service for controlled drugs and maintain associated records, in accordance with procedures.
* Provide patients and patient representatives with basic information and advice needed to use their medicines effectively, referring to a pharmacist where appropriate.
* You will supervise some aspects of the work of Pharmacy Assistants, in the Pharmacy Department and at ward level.
* Where appropriate, and where agreed as a requirement for further development of the service to the relevant team, undertake advanced training programmes.
* Contribute to the training and development of new staff to ensure the continuation of best practice.
* Participate in reviews of work methods and contribute to the development of new processes and systems to minimise risk and to ensure that services are improved continuously.
* Achieve objectives agreed at Achievement Review in order to contribute effectively to the provision of pharmacy services that are continuously improved, and to ensure continuous personal and professional development.
* Effectively, efficiently, and actively liaise with all relevant staff to ensure objectives in all key result areas are achieved.
Person Specification
* Professional registration with GPhC.
* Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians / NVQ Level 3 & BTEC in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent).
* Accreditation as a Medicines Optimisation (formerly Medicines Management) Technician.
* Accreditation as a Checking Technician (ACT).
* Pharmacy / hospital pharmacy experience.

£29,970 to £36,483 a year per annum (Band 4/5 depending on experience).
