GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and dynamic school in Grantham. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students who require additional support to overcome challenges and thrive in their education. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and SEN staff to support students with SEMH needs, helping them manage their emotions and behaviours while engaging with the curriculum. Your role will be crucial in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant: Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one or small group basis. Assist teachers in developing personalised lesson plans and adapting resources to suit students’ needs. Foster a positive, calm, and structured classroom environment that supports students’ social and emotional development. Implement strategies to help students manage their emotions and behaviours effectively. Promote positive interactions between students and encourage peer relationships. Provide feedback and monitor students’ progress in conjunction with the teacher and SEN staff. Support students in their personal care and mobility needs, if required. Build and maintain strong relationships with students, providing emotional support and acting as a positive role model. Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and school staff to ensure the best outcomes for students. Attend meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students. SEMH Teaching Assistant Qualification: Prior experience working with students with SEMH and SEN needs is essential. Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification are preferred but not mandatory. Experience working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant is desirable. Strong communication skills to build effective relationships with students, staff, and parents. A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to supporting students with additional needs. Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to implement de-escalation strategies. A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
