Your Role
If you like the idea of being at the heart of things, this post offers the chance to work at the centre of the council’s Democratic and Electoral Services Office. You will gain valuable experience of the democratic process, elections and local governance and will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to have an exciting and fulfilling career in local government, or a related field.
Your primary role will be providing professional, high quality administrative support to assist with the delivery of national and local elections in Stockport. You will also support the work of the Elections Office in maintaining an up to date and accurate Electoral Register for the borough throughout the year and assisting in the delivery of the yearly annual Canvass.
You will also be required to attend some committee meetings, helping to ensure meeting rules are followed, prepare agendas and minutes and provide other assistance to ensure the smooth running of the meeting. You will also be expected to support the borough’s civic events and clerk School Admission Appeal hearings throughout the year.
About You
Your workload will vary according to the needs of the service, therefore high levels of flexibility and adaptability are required. We are looking for a team player with good communication and ICT skills. Prior experience in an electoral or democratic services context is helpful, but not essential. You will be expected to work to tight deadlines and be willing to be flexible in your day to day working, prepared to work extended hours where the service requires, including evenings and potentially occasional weekends to assist with civic events and in the busy period leading up to elections taking place.
