Job Purpose: As Bid Manager, you will primarily work as part of a tendering team that focuses on strategic and complex High Voltage Major Projects spanning the non-regulated Power Sector. The work will primarily focus on tenders of a complex nature and you will operate as part of a high performing technical team situated in Wakefield, Yorkshire. The role will primarily sit within the Business Development Tendering Team and you will report to the Sales Director responsible for Major Projects. You will work closely with the centralised core function of the business development team Head of Strategic Bids, Business Development Director and other stakeholders across Ipsum that will provide operating standards and governance reach-back. You will have the opportunity to contribute to growth plans and future successes by creating compelling tender submissions for opportunities with strategic customers and thus supporting the targeted sales growth year on year. Working closely with the major projects operations team and other related senior management teams, you will also develop a tendering strategy based around existing key customer account plans and sales activity plans to ensure capability and capacity needs are addressed in what can be described as a very busy department. You will also be responsible for developing and managing associated processes in relation the tender management from A to Z to ensure stakeholders, quality and compliance are at the forefront of each tendering opportunity. We seek a candidate that has the ability to storyboard, script original material and present a final submission document that is both easy to read and compelling. We ideally are looking for a candidate that has an LV/HV background who maintains a high level of project management skills and has the ability in interact with a multitude of key stakeholders. Principal Accountabilities: Work with key Ipsum stakeholders to develop and execute the business growth strategy by producing compelling submissions. Undertake customer research to identify new trends, openings and opportunities to help build a comprehensive CRM & Opportunity Pipeline that’s supports the sales strategy. Develop new relationships with customers that support the tendering requirements Develop & Deliver: Robust end-to-end Pre-Qualification & Tendering events. Owning tender storyboarding, submission quality control & governance sign-off processes and procedures. Owning the submission content & information support library. Continuous tendering improvement processes and procedures in-line with Group processes. Lead/ support tender submissions and liaise with Ipsum tendering stakeholders including business matter experts, capability leads, business leaders and customers to deliver ‘best-in-class’ tender proposals. Manage tendering activity milestone targets & KPIs in-line with annual business growth plans and targets. Produce monthly tendering activity plans. Management reporting of PQQ & Tendering pipeline, monthly status updates for stakeholders. Management and board report submissions to give a “line of sight” in relation to new opportunities. Required Qualifications & Professional Membership(s): Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Association of Bid and Proposal Management Professionals (APMP) professional membership would be an advantage Knowledge & Experience: Demonstrable business development tendering experience in a flexible and agile team working in a fast-paced matrixed environment delivers to demanding internal/external stakeholder expectations. Strong knowledge in the principles of customer tendering events. Experience of procurement processes and online portal management. Knowledge and experience of pre-qualification and tendering management. Experienced in creating compelling customer presentations and tender documents, including scripting of complex answers. Demonstrable business development success and can articulate the journey taken to transfer an opportunity to a ‘win’. The ability to act both strategically and tactically in relation to business growth and sector trends. Experience and understanding of the UK utilities sector, primarily LV/HV power. With digitalisation and data becoming a key component of the sectors we operate in, a background in this arena would also be considered highly desirable.
