Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Software Engineer to join our team in Sensia Malton, Yorkshire.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of specialized software solutions for metering, measurement, and control systems within the oil and gas sector.
You will play a key role in delivering bespoke software tailored to client needs, while ensuring system reliability and accuracy.
Your expertise in fault finding, debugging, version control, and software configuration will be critical in identifying potential engineering challenges and ensuring smooth project delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Verify at the tendering stage whether the client required software functionality is available within base (Standard) software and estimate the time required where bespoke implementation is needed.
2. Design and implement bespoke TruST project software functionality; where applicable, provide feedback to the development team for possible implementation in the base software.
3. Investigate and rectify TruST software errors in both existing (legacy) and new systems – and where applicable, provide feedback fixes to the development team for implementation in the base system.
4. Produce and comment, as necessary, on agreed contract SDRL documentation in accordance with the agreed programme (i.e.: TruST DDS, FDS & ATM) and maintain Swinton design intent.
5. Provide peer checking function on the output of other team members to ensure technical accuracy (only on areas where qualified or suitably experienced to do so). Assigned team member will review the TruST FDS prior to customer submission.
6. Participate in regular project, system design review, and sales handover meetings when specifically assigned to a project; undertake special software development ensuring high-risk areas are both identified and addressed competently.
7. Provide targeted site support during both Installation and Commissioning and post-delivery, where required.
8. Routinely monitor projects to which you are assigned to ensure that systems are being configured, set up, and are working correctly.
9. Implement critical fixes across software branches for both ongoing and legacy projects. Manage software testing and releases, avoiding successive releases with diligent version, revision, and configuration control.
10. Provide skilled technical software support/assistance to the Project and Service teams and assume responsibility for technical issues when escalated.
11. Update and maintain software and bug fixing database and Project SPR records.
12. Keep up to date (by Continuous Professional Development) with technical developments, national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline.
The Individual
1. Degree level in computer science/programming (or alternative engineering degree combined with a software engineering discipline).
2. Experience with metering, measurement, and control systems is required.
3. Proficiency in C++ (Microsoft Developer Studio preferred), multi-threading, object-oriented design, networking (TCP/IP).
4. Knowledge of HMI graphical interfaces, Java, and Visual Basic are advantageous but not essential.
5. Demonstrable fault finding and debugging experience & capability.
6. Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
