About the Role
A highly regarded and innovative engineering firm is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead their dynamic design team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse engineering projects, from concept to fabrication, in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
2. Design Creation: Produce detailed general arrangement and assembly drawings, steelwork detail drawings, plant layouts, and process flow diagrams using software such as AutoCAD 2D, Inventor 3D, and Advance Steel 3D.
3. Project Ownership: Take responsibility for design tasks, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with British Standards and legislation.
4. Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to gather information, validate designs, and support project delivery.
5. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of standard designs and adhere to ISO9001 procedures to maintain quality and efficiency.
6. Site Support: Provide technical assistance during installation and commissioning phases.
7. Innovation: Build relationships with technology providers to stay at the forefront of design and engineering advancements.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
1. At least 4 years' experience in systems design engineering and implementation.
2. Proficiency in 2D, 3D, and structural CAD software.
3. Strong mechanical engineering background with understanding of civil engineering and basic electrical/control systems.
4. Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively across functions.
5. Full UK driving licence and flexibility for occasional travel to sites.
