JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Childcare Assistant – Level 3: One to One Role
Based at: Little Sunflowers Childcare (LSCC) at Plas Madoc
Accountable: Childcare Manager
Hours: Monday to Thursday 2.5h/day (12.15pm to 2.45pm)
Term: Term Time Only
Type: Fixed Term Contract
Duration: January 2025 until end of school year/contract
Salary Scale: £12.00 an hour
Job Purpose: The role is specifically as a One-to-one childcare assistant for a child with additional learning needs. Working under the guidance of your lead practitioner, you will provide support in addressing the needs of a child who needs particular help to overcome barriers to learning. In addition, you will work as a member of the childcare setting to ensure that all children attending the setting receive high quality care, are kept safe, and receive rich and stimulating play experiences, which meet their individual needs.
Main Duties:
1. To provide high standards of quality within the nursery including the environment, resources and experiences offered to children.
2. To participate in the development and evaluation of individual plans (Targeted Universal Provision plans or Small Steps documents).
3. To follow the targets on an agreed individual plan and to support children working towards identified targets.
4. To make regular, quality observations related to a child’s targets or to key issues while being sensitive in approach to a child’s developing needs.
5. To provide quality interactions when supporting children’s play, including peers, modelling play and modelling language strategies.
6. To be prepared to work in partnership with other professionals, for example health visitor, outreach support workers, as well as parents.
7. To adhere to the safeguarding policy and procedures to promote the welfare and safety of children within the setting and to report any welfare or child protection concerns immediately to the Childcare Manager.
8. To promote equal opportunities and foster an inclusive culture and environment ensuring individual children’s needs and circumstances are known and met through the care and education provided.
9. To act as a key person to one child with additional needs or a group of children and ensure their needs are reflected in the routines and curriculum of the setting.
10. To keep informative, accurate and up-to-date records, including records of progress and any behavioural or developmental concerns.
11. To support the preparation of snacks, ensuring that ALL children’s dietary, allergy and cultural needs are met.
12. To contribute to and attend supervisions and staff appraisal.
13. To contribute to and attend regular team meetings.
General: Other responsibilities, which may be negotiated from time to time, which are commensurate with the level and nature of the post. The post will require a degree of flexibility. The Childcare Assistant will be in contact with a wide range of individuals and organisations and will be expected to represent the organisation accordingly.
