ROLE SUMMARY
We are currently looking for a Buyer to join our Global Supply Chains department based in Dunfermline on a 3-month fixed term contract. The role will be responsible for all aspects of purchasing for allocated parts/suppliers. You will work collaboratively with the suppliers and cross functionally within Optos to drive supply chain improvements including delivery against cost, quality and delivery objectives as well as proactively taking the lead in continuous improvement and project initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Proactively work with current/potential suppliers to identify and support cost reduction initiatives ensuring that they are delivered in optimum time with maximum impact.
2. Take ownership for your respective suppliers’ performance and development, leading/supporting strategic business reviews and regular supplier meetings with view to identifying and addressing key risks, issues, and performance improvement opportunities.
3. Lead and / or support change management actions ensuring efficient and effective implementation of New Product Introduction or Engineering Changes.
4. Lead and / or actively support continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practice.
5. Establish supply chain set ups to ensure maximum flexibility and replenishment efficiency to ensure inventory optimisation and supply chain agility.
6. Effectively manage inventory to ensure material availability whilst achieving overall inventory objectives including ‘non-conforming’ inventory, excess and obsolescence targets.
7. Share capacity forecast requirements with key suppliers on monthly basis and obtain positive confirmation that the supplier has the capability to meet the full requirements, taking ownership for communication and resolution of any exceptions.
8. Maintain appropriate information on each supplier’s organisational structure, business strategy, and key capabilities.
9. Ensure lead time details are regularly refreshed in system and POs are placed accordingly in line with demand, agreed pricing / sourcing strategy ensuring proactive approach to address queries before impacting critical path for PO placement.
10. Ensure data integrity on ongoing basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
11. Ideally, degree or equivalent experience in materials management of business studies.
12. Working towards CIPS qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience essential.
13. Previous supply chain/materials experience in a medium/high volume manufacturing environment.
14. Proven ability and significant commercial awareness of supplier relationship management.
15. Background and knowledge of appropriate production processes.
16. Familiarity with unique pricing philosophies/strategies.
17. Strong interpersonal skills with an influential approach to authority.
18. Qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
19. Target-oriented individual, experienced in the setting and meeting of agreed targets.
20. Excellent presentation skills; consultative, sophisticated approach/style as well as ability to think and plan strategically.
21. Sound interpersonal and organisational skills.
