Duties & Responsibilities:
This Service Delivery Engineer position located in VIAVI’s Edinburgh office will put you right at the centre of the optical network monitoring business within Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).
As a highly motivated Delivery Engineer focussed on the support & deployment of VIAVI’s optical network monitoring system, you will leverage your experience and technical expertise to collaborate with internal solution architects and members of other cross-functional teams in Sales, Product Line Management (PLM) & Technical Support, to ensure the successful completion of projects.
In this role, you will be a key point of contact with project teams, suppliers and customers throughout entire project lifecycles. You will also be working in the field with our customers and sub-contractors to install and configure our solutions at customer facilities.
The successful Service Delivery Engineer will be expected to be a subject matter expert in the details of installing, configuring and troubleshooting this technology. The ability to work in a fast-changing environment, along with others in the team to gain additional insight into methods and procedures, quality improvements and related areas is a key requirement for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Design, install, configure and troubleshoot optical network monitoring systems.
* Develop process documents, method of procedures and work instructions (time estimates/materials) for customers and suppliers.
* Responsible for training, quality, safety and technical support / issue resolution for client and third-party contractors.
* Perform build/ safety audits and report issues/ non-conformance (including inventory accuracy).
* Maintain an effective relationship with key suppliers, internal departments, and customers as necessary to deliver projects.
* Provide excellent customer service and support.
* Ability to travel up to 30% within EMEA.
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
* Knowledge / expertise / in Fibre Optics.
* Fluent (B1/B2 at least) in Italian.
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics.
* IT knowledge in Linux Operating Systems, computer networking scripting languages & database technologies.
* Knowledge of optical test equipment (OTDR, OSA, BERT, optical power meter) with various types of optical fibres and fibre optic characterization (FOC) procedures and equipment.
* Knowledge of developing and interpreting network architecture documents.
* Capability to develop and document detailed test plans and network documents.
