A Newborn Hearing Screener is required to join our friendly team based at St Richards Hospital Chichester.
The successful candidate will participate in the provision of hearing screening in newborn babies within the West Sussex area, under the supervision of the Hearing Screening Team Leader. These positions will include some weekend working.
The successful applicant will be required to complete a Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners Newborn Hearing Screening.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will carry out the hearing screening of babies within the Post-Natal Ward, Delivery Suite, Special Care Baby Unit, and outpatient departments. Following the screening test, data will be transferred onto the NHSP database (S4H). Ensure accurate test results are given to parents and other healthcare professionals as required and notes are completed. Arrange referrals to the Audiology Department for diagnostic testing when appropriate and deal sensitively with any parental concerns.
Job Responsibilities
1. Identify which babies require screening by using the Screening database (Smart4Hearing), Patient Administration database, Audiology database, and liaising with ward staff, screen and data collection.
2. Gather and accurately record clinical and screen data relevant to the screening process.
3. Complete the hearing screen and communicate results to parents, team members, Local Manager, Midwives, and other healthcare professionals.
4. Upload results from the screening process to the national database in a timely manner.
5. Promote a professional, welcoming, and caring environment endorsing a family-friendly approach to care, ensuring that parents and families retain their dignity and individuality at all times.
6. Facilitate the smooth running of the programme in association with the Local Manager and other team members, by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to the post, and participate in clinical audit at local, regional, and national levels.
7. Manage own workload and screening on a busy ward where the work pattern can be unpredictable.
8. Deal with emotional situations, e.g. with parents whose baby has obtained a no clear response at hearing screen.
9. Ensure consumables/stock are sufficient to run the service and reorder if necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent, including English and Maths. Educated to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge and experience of IT administrative systems, IT software programmes including Microsoft applications.
* Previous clinical NHS/Healthcare environment experience.
* Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) External Competency Assessment (ECA) (or NHSP OSCE) (D) - otherwise be required to successfully complete.

Salary: £24,071 to £25,674 per annum, pro rata.
