Description
The Material Handling Team Leader will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the material handling team, ensuring the efficient movement, storage, and distribution of materials throughout our manufacturing facility. Reporting directly to the Material Handling Supervisor, you will supervise and motivate a team of material handling operators to meet operational targets and maintain the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and supervise a team of material handling operators in the warehouse and production areas.
2. Ensure timely, accurate receipt, storage, and delivery of materials to production lines and other areas of the facility.
3. Monitor and optimise material handling processes to ensure smooth flow of materials, reduce downtime, and support production schedules.
4. Ensure all team members are trained on material handling equipment, safety protocols, and company procedures.
5. Coordinate and assign tasks to the team, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to meet production targets.
6. Resolve material handling issues or obstacles that arise, ensuring minimal disruption to production operations.
7. Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, quality control, and SCM) to ensure smooth material flow and address any operational challenges.
8. Maintain compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and ensure that team members follow all safety procedures.
9. Conduct performance reviews for material handling staff and provide coaching and feedback to help them improve.
10. Monitor inventory levels and support inventory control activities, including cycle counts and stock audits.
11. Support the Material Handling Supervisor with daily reports and operational updates.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
1. Proven experience as a Material Handling Operator or Warehouse Worker, with at least 2-3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
2. Strong knowledge of material handling processes and safety procedures within a manufacturing environment.
3. Ability to motivate and develop a team to achieve operational goals.
4. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
5. Experience with material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, VNA truck etc).
6. Basic computer skills, including experience with warehouse management system or inventory tracking software (SAP knowledge is a plus).
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills:
1. Previous experience in automotive / battery manufacturing industry.
2. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or 5S methodology.
3. Ability to handle conflict resolution and manage team dynamics.
4. Certification in material handling equipment operation (e.g.: Forklift license / certificate).
