Job Summary
We are looking for an innovative and motivated Peer Support Worker to join the Broxtowe and Hucknall Local Mental Health Team which covers Nottinghamshire County. The successful applicant will have lived experience of mental health difficulties and will be offered support in developing self/role via the Trust's Peer Support Development Unit.
The Mental Health division of Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust comprises three directorates; Adult Mental Health, Mental Health Services for Older People and Specialist Services. Main Duties of the Job
Engagement with peer support workers aims to add additional opportunities for engagement with the service within the community. The value of lived experience in supporting this population of people is understood as an integral part of this service and the huge value this adds to the support offered.
As a Peer Support Worker, you will use your experiences to offer understanding, support in linking with appropriate services/agencies, promote choice and inspire hope and future opportunities. The role will include offering support to carers (including friends and relatives) and their supporters in the community by enabling and assisting them to meet daily health, social care and well-being needs, in line with support plans and facilitating engagement with mainstream services. All work will be carried out under the supervision of the Team Lead and Clinical Lead.
As a Peer Support Worker, you will act as a recovery champion within the team and an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. You will be supported, and are expected, to invest in your own personal and professional development as well as supporting ongoing development of peer roles in the Trust.
Job Responsibilities
The Broxtowe and Hucknall LMHT has a full-time Peer Support Worker post available. Your lived experience of mental health services will be a significant part of your work, using your experiences to offer understanding, support in linking with appropriate services/agencies, promote choice and inspire hope and future opportunities. This is particularly important for this population of service users who often face additional barriers to accessing mainstream services and experiences of stigma.
1. Screening/team held caseload: Support the team's screening process for all referrals into the service. Support the team's assessment of individuals and develop a plan of support in conjunction with the service user and the wider Multi Disciplinary Team, using lived experience as a way to support engagement.
2. Active engagement: Be actively involved in the assertive follow-up of individuals with a range of vulnerabilities. Work with the Local Mental Health Team and other agencies such as social care, health and voluntary, charitable agencies.
3. Caseload: Work with team-held caseload of service users with a range of complex vulnerabilities and ensure support plans are formulated, acted upon and reviewed. Support service user engagement and be involved in the development of collaborative support packages/support plans.
4. Develop good working relationships: Effectively liaise and develop links with services in the community to establish effective care and aftercare pathways.
Appointed applicants will have access to robust clinical and managerial supervision and career development opportunities. The service is committed to ensuring the staff in the team are well equipped to work with the complex service users accessing the service and so training is well supported and there is a range of access to robust supervision.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled Worker visa. Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances, the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Person Specification
Qualifications:
* Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3/AS Level or equivalent (Desirable)
* Mental Health related qualification i.e. Certificate in Community Mental (Desirable)
Training:
* Completion of, or willingness to complete Peer Support Worker Training (Essential)
* Completion of own wellness plan (there is no expectation for this to be shared) (Essential)
* Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of peer support (Desirable)
Experience:
* Lived experience of mental distress and recovery (Essential)
* Experience of being in a supportive and enabling role (Essential)
* Experience of training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others (Desirable)
