What you will do in your working day
Your duties as a Highways Maintenance Apprentice may include:
· Operation of mechanical tools
· Kerb laying
· Drainage works
· Tarmacking
· Emergency call-out work
· Meeting health & safety standards
· Outside working, throughout the year
Alongside your day-to-day role, you’ll also be studying towards your Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative level 2 Apprenticeship. Supported by your local team and your Learning & Development team, you’ll be given the tools needed to complete your apprenticeship to the highest standard, whilst also contributing positively to the team throughout your studies. This course last between 18-24 months, and you will be given time during your working week to complete your studies.
The training you will be getting
You will achieve the apprenticeship standard level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative.
You may study English and/or maths depending on your qualifications and exam grades.
You will also build a portfolio of evidence during your apprenticeship which covers a range of criteria required for your apprenticeship.
You will study with Greenlight Training on a block release basis, 3 days per month. Accomodation and travel expenses are covered by VolkerHighways. Your training takes place in Bristol on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so you may need to travel up on Sunday evening. We help you arrange the travel and hotel and you'll be attending with other apprentices from VolkerHighways.
