Our Integrated Mental Health and Substance Use Team at HMP Isle of Wight is looking for a dynamic and experienced registered mental health nurse.
This is an exciting and diverse role for an individual who is passionate about providing excellent quality nurse leadership. You will have the privilege to influence and lead the provision of high-quality mental health care to some of society’s most vulnerable members.
You would be joining a caring and compassionate multi-disciplinary team committed to Recovery focused and trauma-informed approaches to care.
Main duties of the job
* The operational and clinical management and clear leadership across the prison estate at IOW.
* To ensure delivery of effective and safe services which reflect the key elements of our clinical and operational governance structure.
* The post-holder will focus on introducing ways of continuously improving the quality of their service and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish.
* To provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence and expertise in Mental Health work to whom staff and patients can call upon for assistance, advice and support.
* To provide leadership and managerial support to the teams.
Contribute to the on-going development of the Integrated Mental Health Service and substance misuse service; this includes attending relevant meetings and supporting the development of the service.
Ensuring that managerial decisions made are in conjunction with all partners (including clients/patients, staff and other agencies).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Ensure the efficient use of human resources ensuring safe levels of staffing, which reflect the necessary and appropriate skill mix across the team as identified by senior managers.
* Responsibility for the operational and clinical management of the prison estate.
* Lead on recruitment, selection and interviewing staff and support leads to undertake the induction of new staff.
* Oversee the incidents and SI reporting in the cluster and to ensure investigations are carried out in a timely manner and to work alongside the Head of Quality and Performance for Inclusion in ensuring lessons are learnt and shared across Inclusion and with PPG.
* Facilitate service user and carer involvement in the on-going development and evaluation of the service.
* The post holder will lead on developing local Service User and Carer strategies in partnership with the Patient Advocacy Liaison Service, for involving the patient/user/carer in the planning, review and evaluation of care.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Professional Qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work, Psychology and/or significant experience of managing services in Mental Health, Substance Misuse or Prisons with a Leadership Qualification.
Experience
* Extensive experience of working with clients with Mental Health / Substance misuse problems.
* Extensive experience of managing a related service and delivering a high quality service which delivers on outcomes.
* Experience of working in a prison setting.
