This is an exciting opportunity to help shape one of the most beautiful and diverse regions of Scotland. Argyll and Bute stretches from the Central Belt encompassing large towns such as Dunoon and Helensburgh right through to the west coast and beyond, taking in Oban, Lochgilphead, Campbeltown as well as 23 inhabited islands including Tiree, Mull, Islay and the Atlantic Islands. Development interest varies considerably ranging from large scale windfarms, aquaculture, housing, commerce and retail and minor householder developments. Our built environment is also one of our key assets and is protected by thirty two Conservation Area designations. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects.
The Development Management Service is seeking to recruit a motivated professional to be based in either our Dunoon or Helensburgh offices and be responsible for planning enforcement and monitoring of development in and around Bute, Cowal, Helensburgh and Lomond localities.
The successful candidate will help us deliver first class customer service, implement the aspirations of our growth led Local Development Plan (LDP) and maintain positive performance.
We expect the post holder to be responsible for a diverse caseload including:
1. Dealing with enforcement enquiries
2. Monitoring of developments
3. Pre-application enquiries
4. Planning applications
5. Appeals
6. Local reviews
7. Other related projects
They will need to be an excellent communicator and work effectively in a team as well as using initiative to manage workload, performance and travel to sites independently across a large geographic area.
Remuneration will be dependent on experience and qualifications and may be suited to recently qualified graduates who can demonstrate a clear route to attaining RTPI accreditation. If you are a graduate with a planning (or similar) degree the Council shall support you towards obtaining professional accreditation of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
The salary scale for newly qualified candidates will be Scottish Local Government Employee (SLGE) 9, which is between £30,020 and £32,629 per year, and for experienced candidates SLGE 11, which is between £38,578 and £41,754 per year. The post holder will be contracted to 35 hours per week and will be entitled to flexitime.
The post is based at either the Helensburgh & Lomond Civic Centre or Argyll House, Dunoon. The post is suitable for hybrid working arrangements; however, the demands of the role will require the postholder to regularly undertake site visits and to attend an office location in person for team engagement/training as necessary.
