As a Senior Manager – Natural Perils, you will be working as part of a team of experienced scientists, catastrophe modellers and actuaries within the Science & Natural Perils portion of AXA XL’s Risk Management team. The primary focus of the team is to bring expert knowledge and scientific expertise into the (re)insurance decision making process impacting portfolio aggregation, technical pricing, capital modelling and business planning.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Project management for Model Evaluation projects for third party catastrophe models, using an internally developed framework.
2. Perform expert technical analysis for Catastrophe Model Evaluation projects including each component of the catastrophe model and the overall loss calibration.
3. Liaise with internal scientists and actuaries within the broader team to enable their expertise to be best used within projects.
4. Communicate findings and recommendations from evaluations to key stakeholders including underwriters, actuaries, cat modellers and senior management via both written reports and oral presentations.
5. Support development of solutions for traditionally non-modelled natural perils.
6. Support implementation of modelling solutions for technical pricing, accumulation management, business planning and capital setting.
7. Build an external network within the catastrophe modelling industry to bring the latest research and developments into AXA XL’s modelling practices, including interacting with catastrophe model vendors.
8. Manage the model evaluation team located in London and India.
You will report to the Head of Science & Natural Perils.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
1. Significant cat modelling experience in (re)insurance industry experience, preferably with model evaluation / validation.
2. Significant experience in managing projects and excellent multi-tasking skills.
3. Excellent communications skills, including report writing and ability to give presentations.
4. Ability to build a network with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Master’s degree or equivalent in a numerate subject.
6. Knowledge and expertise in RMS (RL and HD) and AIR.
7. Very good SQL knowledge.
8. Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
9. People management.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge and expertise in Impact Forecasting, JBA, COMBUS.
2. Programming/coding skills in SQL (essential), R (preferable), Power BI.
3. A willingness to undertake projects in fields outside of your area of direct expertise.
