An opportunity has arisen within the Ophthalmology department for a Theatre Scheduler. The role is to pro-actively manage and maintain a comprehensive record of patients waiting for elective admission, both day case and inpatient on the Patient Administration System (PAS). The post holder will be responsible for the production and organisation of theatre lists, arranging and contacting patients for pre-operative assessment and for admission. The Theatre Scheduler is responsible for scheduling all theatre lists in conjunction with the relevant Consultants. Excellent accuracy, organisational and communication skills are essential for this post, liaising with both the general public and colleagues including Consultant level and theatre staff. The ability to work under pressure and to use one's own initiative is also essential in this role. A knowledge of RTT validation and excel experience is also desirable.
Main duties of the job
1. To proactively manage the efficient scheduling of inpatient and day case procedures across the sub-division.
2. Key responsibilities include adding patients to the waiting list, scheduling patients into appropriate theatre slots within RTT targets, supporting and reporting to Support Manager/Service Manager, and escalating issues appropriately.
3. The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to exercise sound judgement and will be required to use decision-making skills.

Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics
* NVQ in customer care or equivalent experience.
Skills
* Excellent administrative and organisation skills
* Experience of working within the NHS
* Knowledge of practices for waiting list management
