Location May be based in Truro, Cornwall or Norwich, Norfolk Halyard is a highly skilled multidisciplinary engineering company providing services including site studies, design, procurement, cost control, program management, construction management and commissioning in the mining and utilities sectors. Headquartered in Toronto Canada, we work closely with our wholly owned subsidiary Micon International with offices in Toronto, Truro (UK) and Norwich (UK). Whilst this role is based in the UK it will support and work under the direction of the Toronto engineering team. The intention is to build and develop engineering capability in the UK that will in the short term support the Canadian operations but in the medium term establish a fully functioning engineering office in the UK. The role that the Designer plays is essential in the engineering team. This position, reporting to the Design Office Manager requires a high degree of versatility where the work may range from flow sheet and P&ID development to 3D detailing work and layouts that commence as conceptual designs through to final designs as per the requirements of the project life cycle. This position requires a candidate who can work within tight deadlines. The work may involve some international travel and to mine sites as may be required and particular to the project. Key Responsibilities: Willing to work in design teams in close collaboration with multi-discipline engineers and project managers on international projects. All aspects of the design process including the creation of 3D CAD models, 2D CAD drawings including bill of materials, piping isometrics, stress analysis, and equipment layout & sizing. Manage small scale projects independently. Willing to learn on the job and develop skills in the various disciplines and keep up to date with technology developments. Ensure drawings have a high degree of accuracy and maintain document and revision control management as per the design office procedures. Ensure specifications and external design standards are followed. Participate in design and drawing reviews. Update and suitably amend drawings from comments made in reviews. Tracking your hours based on the project hours and keeping within the designated number of hours. Responsible for the execution time of own work. Participates in schedule updates. Follow internal policies, standards, systems and procedures for the engineering department. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree. 5 years of experience design/drafting. Strong background in 3D design. Experience with AutoCAD, Plant3D, Inventor, and Revit an asset. Practical site experience and exposure to construction, commissioning and back drafting is highly desirable. Experience with laying out process plants and industrial facilities especially minerals processing plants, including the optimal routing of process piping. Familiarity and an understanding of multidisciplinary engineering activities is an asset, for instance: Civil Works, Structural Steel, Plate Works, Conveyors, Crushers and Chutes, Mills and Process Equipment, Dewatering equipment like thickeners and filters, Piping and cable routing. Familiarity with process design including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) and Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs). Collaborative team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
