Job Title: Senior Welding Engineer

What you’ll be doing:
* Providing welding engineering guidance and technical support to structural and piping areas across the Submarines business unit
* Supporting and undertaking Procedure Qualification Record development, testing and qualification of welding procedure specifications to support process improvements within the production environment
* Assisting with preparation and transmittal of welding documentation to production areas
* Monitoring weld quality within structural and piping areas and reporting findings to internal stakeholders
* Investigating and evaluating emerging process technology and consumables for suitability to submarine construction
* Liaising with internal departments to ensure welding process control is enforced and maintained
* Conducting routine process audits within production areas to investigate defect trends and facilitate improvement and reporting findings for line management review
Your skills and experiences:
* Degree qualified, or equivalent, in a relevant engineering subject
* Recognised Welding Institute Qualifications – European Welding Technologist (EWT) or above
* Demonstrable working knowledge of the main welding processes typically used for structural and piping applications within a heavy engineering environment and familiarity with associated national and international codes and specification
* Demonstrable experience of developing welding procedure specifications for ferrous and non-ferrous materials used for structural and piping applications
* Knowledge of mechanised, orbital and/or automated welding techniques would be advantageous

The Welding Engineering team:
The welding engineering team is part of the Materials Technology Department and comprises approximately 20 multi skilled welding engineers and technicians working across the three submarine programmes, providing technical support for all weld related activities on site and adjacent BAE businesses. Working with a wide range of metallic materials and welding processes, the team are responsible for the development and implementation of new and innovative processes to maintain our position at the forefront of weld engineering and process technology. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
