The role
As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role sits within our Cavendish Nuclear business, from decommissioning redundant nuclear facilities, through supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent, to supporting the operation and build of nuclear power plants. Our role in Cavendish Nuclear is to clean up the nuclear legacy and create a world where nuclear plays a key contribution in protecting our nation, ensuring security of energy supply and meeting our net zero commitments.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for managing the delivery of engineering and technical activities, through the application of process, domain knowledge and experience across our projects:
1. Assist in effective management of the customer, through interfacing with customers and supply chain on design issues and assist with procurement specifications.
2. Ensure procedures, codes, and standards are correctly identified and applied to engineering and technical activities.
3. Ensure that adequate review, verification, and approval is undertaken on all deliverables and for those under direct control and supervision.
4. Provide a technical interface with internal and external stakeholders at a detailed level.
5. Carry out technical investigations and analysis to provide data for problem assessment/resolution and for design of improvements.
6. Contribute to process improvement within the operational and/or design lifecycle to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time, and asset utilisation.
7. Apply engineering domain knowledge to produce technical solutions and documentation in support of assigned tasks and projects.
8. Produce, review, verify outputs including calculations, analyses, technical reports, technical specifications, and method statements.
9. Ensure appropriate review, verification, and approval is undertaken on work performed.
10. Plan, deliver, and monitor assigned tasks and projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to time, quality, and cost.
11. Provide support to the Project Manager for the planning, control, and delivery of tasks and projects.
12. Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
13. Act as Technical Authority or Engineering Lead when authorised to do so.
Essential experience & qualifications of the Principal Electrical Engineer
Requirements include:
1. Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in relevant engineering discipline, with demonstrable experience.
2. Experience in working collaboratively in multi-discipline teams to deliver activities on a range of project types.
3. Demonstrable experience in covering a variety of tasks.
4. Communications skills and the ability to interface with other disciplines.
The role operates on a 37-hour work week and includes hybrid & flexible working. The successful candidate must be able to achieve baseline security clearance for this role.
