Care Assistant Job Description
As a Care Assistant in our care home in Lincoln, your primary responsibility is to provide high-quality, person-centered care to our residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. You will assist with daily living activities, support the emotional and social needs of the residents, and maintain a clean, supportive, and homely environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Personal Care:
o Assist residents with personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
o Help residents with mobility, using equipment like hoists when necessary, ensuring their comfort and safety.
o Support residents with eating and drinking, ensuring dietary needs are met.
2. Health and Well-being:
o Monitor and record residents' health conditions, reporting any changes to senior staff.
o Assist with administering medication under supervision.
o Encourage residents to participate in activities that promote physical and mental well-being.
3. Emotional Support:
o Provide companionship and build positive relationships with residents.
o Offer emotional support to residents and their families, addressing concerns with empathy and understanding.
o Respect residents' privacy, dignity, and independence at all times.
4. Communication:
o Maintain clear and accurate records of care provided, including care plans, daily logs, and incident reports.
o Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the care team to ensure consistent, coordinated care.
5. Environment:
o Ensure residents' living areas are clean, tidy, and comfortable.
o Follow health and safety guidelines, ensuring the care home is a safe environment for residents and staff.
o Assist with laundry, housekeeping, and meal preparation when needed.
6. Teamwork:
o Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality care.
o Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
o Support new staff and volunteers, sharing knowledge and experience.
Person Specification:
1. Qualifications:
o Care certificate or NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (desirable but not essential).
o Basic First Aid training (desirable).
2. Experience:
o Previous experience in a care setting (desirable but not essential; training will be provided).
o Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals is an advantage.
3. Skills:
o Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to care.
o Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Strong observational skills to notice changes in residents' conditions.
4. Attributes:
