**The role of Vice Chair / Chair Elect is not accompanied by any financial remuneration from the Charity, although expenses for travel may be claimed**
I am recruiting a Vice Chair / Chair Elect for a three-year term on behalf of an inspiring charity who already have an experienced, committed and fully inclusive Board of Trustees.
The current Chair is looking to step down at the end of financial year 2025/2026. Please note, a Chair will need to be formally voted in early 2026.

Timeframes:
Closing date: Wednesday 19th February 2025
Shortlisting: w/c Monday 28th February 2025
Final Panel interviews: w/c Monday 17th March 2025
Start date: March 2025 but as a vice chair / chair elect position until the current Chair steps down.
Term:
Vice Chair / Chair Elect will serve a one-year term before acceding to the position of Chair for at least 2 years. Trustees must be re-elected every 3 years and are eligible for re-appointment.
Time commitment:
4 Board meetings per year (in person – London – 16:00 – 19:00)
1 Strategy Away Day per year (in person – London – all day Saturday)
In the first year, attendance at 2 of each of the 3 sub committees – 6 meetings (Online 16:00 – 18:30)
The Vice Chair / Chair Elect is also expected to attend regular meetings with the Chair and CEO and represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.
Role Description:
The Vice Chair / Chair Elect will hold the Board and CEO to account for the delivery of the mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance.
The Vice Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire management team to achieve agreed strategic objectives.They will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the CEO.
The Vice Chair will support the Chair in her work and deputise for her when she is not available.
The Vice Chair will be specifically responsible for working with Trustees, the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to develop the charity’s next 3-year strategy 2026 – 2029. This will enable the Vice Chair to effectively drive the new Strategy with the Board and the CEO when she accedes as Chair in March 2026.
Experience and skills required:
Personal gravitas to lead a significant organisation
Exhibit strong inter-personal and relationship building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role
Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation
Successful track record of achievement through their career
Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
Experience of external representation, delivering presentations and managing stakeholders
Significant experience of chairing meetings and events
Broad knowledge and understanding of the voluntary and community sector and current issues affecting it
Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of charity finance issues
Good understanding of charity governance issues
