About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a diligent Insurance Commercial Underwriter to join our New Business team as a Senior Commercial Underwriter where you’ll be responsible for evaluating and assessing complex risks across a variety of business classes, including our Motor Trade, Farm, Estates and Commercial Select products as well as being a point of referral for less experienced team members. You’ll train, coach, mentor and guide team members and provide technical support to various stakeholders across the business and support Change to shape the department and its processes, looking to continuously improve the efficiency of our operations. You’ll also be responsible for delivering short-term and one-off projects and activities.

Our NFU Mutual agencies are the vital day-to-day link with our customers and, as an Underwriter, you'll build strong relationships and work collaboratively with our Agents, resolving complex referrals and ensuring effective management of the insurance risk cost whilst delivering the right solution and service for our members.
We provide a comprehensive induction to the role and to make sure you get the most out of this, you will need to be able to commit to being in the office full-time for the first 6 months. Following your induction, you will receive ongoing training which will support your career progression and personal growth.
Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday with shifts between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
About you
You’ll be a Commercial Underwriting professional with extensive new business underwriting experience across a variety of business classes. You’ll be a resilient individual and able to demonstrate effective communication skills which will enable you to establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the business, with the ability and confidence to challenge and influence where necessary. To join our team, you’ll also have:
* Property & Liability Commercial Underwriting experience within the mid-market space
* Experience of coaching, mentoring, and training colleagues
* Confident communicator with experience of leading and influencing risk decisions
* The ability to make rational and logical decisions in a fast-paced environment
