About this opportunity
Gleeds are looking for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to join our team based in the Midlands from our Birmingham office. The experienced professional is responsible for managing building surveying commissions, including surveys, dilapidation advice, party wall advice, and construction projects for new builds, renovations, and maintenance works.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Supporting business unit directors in delivering business objectives
2. Positively engaging with customers and developing, growing, and maintaining customer relationships
3. Delivering high quality services and ensuring that building surveying deliverables meet customer’s requirements
4. Managing projects to deliver high quality services and deliverables in accordance with business procedures
5. Managing building surveying commissions, including surveys, dilapidation advice, party wall advice, and construction projects for new builds, renovations, and maintenance works – from feasibility through to design, contract administration to handover and post completion reviews
6. Quality monitoring of construction projects
7. Planning service delivery in conjunction with the Director with overall responsibility for the project
8. Agreeing with the director and client the right sub-consultants to assist with delivery of a commission and following the approved procedures for appointing Sub-Consultants
9. Communicating with and providing good sound professional advice to both clients and other project team members
10. Ensuring that all quantitative and financial information has been independently checked before issue, including maintaining evidence of independent checks
11. Remaining in the remit of your role and when additional responsibilities need to be carried out, conduct this in a fully informed manner with the approval of your line manager
12. Producing and presenting to customers
13. Mentoring and coaching employees to their full potential
14. Preparing bids for services
15. Managing services delivery for profit
16. Advising directors promptly of any issues that have arisen, or that might arise, on projects; in particular those that might impact on Gleeds professional indemnity (PI) insurance
17. Identifying new business development opportunities and driving growth across the Business Unit activities

Who we’re looking for:
Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills
1. Sound Building Surveying experience post MRICS qualification
2. Sound knowledge and practical experience of delivery of building surveying tasks
3. Cohesive knowledge of construction methods and materials
4. Thorough knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies
5. Ability to administer construction contracts as Contracts Administrator and Employers Agent
6. Clear understanding of legislation impacting on building contracts
7. Clear and effective communication skills – both oral and written
8. Good organisational skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changes
9. Excellent problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills
10. Ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily
11. Sound ICT Skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
12. Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams
