Job Description
What you’ll be doing:
1. Reporting to the Head of Communications for Local Public Service.
2. Work alongside and support the DSA leadership team on improving internal communication and colleague engagement – enabling greater collaboration and two-way communication with all colleagues supporting the contract. This will include supporting and continuously reviewing the current channels / approach. Making recommendations and supporting in the preparation, creation, and delivery of content (including management of DSA Colleague SharePoint site).
3. Support the contract MD and HEP liaison managers with proactive, positive HEP engagement (through qtr bulletins and other routes to consider). Manage associated distribution lists and the send of the communications to this population.
4. Support the contract MD in further developing engagement with our Advocacy Group – reviewing approach to date, feedback, and effectiveness.
5. Provide support to the DSA programme team – reviewing and critiquing content updates to the student portal, along with associated email and SMS updates.
6. With support from the Head of Communications, and with guidance from the PR team and Public Affairs team, help manage reputational risk (planning for potential media/PA attention).
7. Be the main communications contact into the client (SLC). Ensuring any external communication plans / messages are aligned, and plan, share and sign off content together as necessary.
8. Tactical/Q2-Q3 - create Needs Assessment Videos for the student portal – providing an overview of the assessment process and what they can expect (RM to confirm if still required).
9. Surface and share good news stories from the contract and promote across Capita/CPS/LPS.
What we’re looking for:
1. A significant track record of working in internal corporate communications (external communications experience would also be beneficial).
2. An operational management background.
3. Ideally an understanding of DSA or disability assessment frameworks in other areas.
4. Strategic communications experience.
5. A flexible and adaptable approach to their work.

About DSA
Disabled Students’ Allowance is a non-means-tested financial support for students in higher education. It covers the study-related costs students may have because of a mental health condition, long-term illness or other disability. Support could include specialist technology, equipment and training. It can also be used to pay for non-medical help, such as specialist mentoring or specialist study skills support, and travel.
We’ll take claimants through the process, from carrying out their study needs assessment and recommending support, to delivering equipment and providing training. Our specially trained assessors will carry out a professional assessment, making it clear what they can expect from us and what they will need to do in return.
We provide support for Student Finance England (SFE) and Student Finance Wales (SFW) students in Wales, the Midlands, London, the East of England and Northern Ireland.
