MacArthur Green is a Glasgow-based environmental consultancy, seeking a Field Ecologist to join our team to help with protected species surveys, peat survey projects, and water quality monitoring. We specialise in providing ecology and ornithology consultancy services to large-scale renewable projects such as onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as natural capital schemes and grid network projects. The Field Ecologist will provide essential support to our ecology team. This role will be primarily site-based so you must love the great outdoors in all its splendour, and in all the elements. Lone working will be required, so you must be resourceful and content to work alone. You must live within commuting distance of our office and be willing to travel and work away from home. You will have long drives to site each day in addition to your commute to the office or you will be staying away from Monday to Friday for sites in remote locations. The role will include: Ecology surveys (bats, otter, water vole, badger, pine marten, red squirrel etc). Water quality monitoring and dipwell surveys. Bat surveys (Anabat deployment and collection). Peat depth and peat coring survey work. Data entry (Excel) and digitisation (QGIS); General administration support. The successful candidate will meet the following criteria: Degree or equivalent experience in an environmental field (e.g. Ecology, Zoology, Environmental Management). UK driving licence and be a confident driver (manual is essential, ideally 4x4 driving experience and/or training). Experience of undertaking ecology field surveys. Experience of working in remote outdoor environments (including navigation using compass and OS maps); A passion for ecology and the natural environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work. Proficient in Microsoft software such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
