Job Description:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in Axminster, Devon. As an SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing one-on-one support to students with a range of special educational needs. This role requires a proactive and patient individual who can adjust their approach to cater to the diverse requirements of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the lead teacher and SENCO.
2. Support students with special needs in the classroom, enabling them to fully participate in activities.
3. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
4. Employ strategies to support and encourage students' learning and engagement.
5. Monitor students' progress and report on observations to the lead teacher.
6. Prepare learning materials under the supervision of the lead teacher.
7. Help manage student behavior in the classroom and on school premises.
8. Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.
9. Assist with the general well-being of students during school hours.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience working with SEND children is highly beneficial.
2. Patience, understanding, and a passion for working with children with special needs.
3. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
4. An up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one.
5. Flexibility in working hours to meet the demands of the role.
6. While not essential, being a driver with access to a vehicle is desirable due to the flexible nature of the job and the varied locations you may be required to work at.
