Responsibilities Working Hours Normal hours of work are 40/42 hours per week, depending on shift pattern required in order to meet the needs of the business. The postholder is required to work such hours as are necessary in order to satisfactorily perform the role. This role will be required to work shifts as required by the Company. The current shift pattern is 24/7, 12-Hour Shifts, PANAMA Shift Pattern, Average 42 hours per week. Main Purpose of Job To provide support to the Laboratory Team Lead in processing samples for Elemental composition analysis. Key Tasks and Accountabilities As a Laboratory Technician you will work as part of a small team to provide accurate and timely chemical analysis to support the on-site production team for the manufacture of Nickel and Cobalt based superalloys. You must be able to comply with company policies and procedures ensuring health and safety standards are always upheld. You will prepare samples using various mechanical abrasive methods. You will be expected to analyse samples by all the following analytical methods: X-Ray Fluorescence. Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry. Spark Optical Emission Spectrometry. Combustion IR. Inert Gas Fusion. You will use the data from the analysis to either support production through in process additions to the furnace as part of the melting process, or to complete release certification. You will be also required to: Perform regular instrument maintenance and cleaning. Assist with set up and validation of any new equipment in the department. Review/ write lab procedures and identify any gaps in these documents. Participate in internal and external audits where required to support retention of ISO 17025 accreditation. Monitor instrument performance and report breakdowns. Knowledge Awareness of the analytical techniques above would be advantageous. Experience of material approvals / quality systems such as ISO17025 would be advantageous. Understanding of instrument calibration. Aptitudes Required Ability to work to tight deadlines. Ability to prioritise workloads as appropriate. Excellent communication skills. Good analytical and numeracy skills. Hands on approach and ability to self-manage. Able to work independently. Qualifications Qualifications We are seeking an individual who has at least one of the following: A basic theoretical knowledge of the analytical techniques we use, and knowledge of other techniques used for analysing metals. Experience working in an ISO 17025 approved laboratory environment. A degree in chemistry or related subject.
