Role Overview:
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Pharmacist to oversee and enhance pharmaceutical care within the Oncology and Haematology departments.
This is a critical role for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered pharmacy services in alignment with the latest Medicines Management Standards.
You’ll be working closely with clinical teams to support chemotherapy services, contribute to clinical governance, and improve the overall patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Service Leadership: Manage the pharmacy service for oncology/haematology patients, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective practices.
* Clinical Support: Attend consultant-led ward rounds, provide expert advice on medication use, and support the aseptic preparation unit for chemotherapy.
* Standards & Compliance: Conduct audits, contribute to policy development, and lead compliance initiatives for Medicines Management Standards.
* Patient and Staff Engagement: Educate patients, carers, and healthcare professionals on safe medication use and act as a key support for the Chemocare® electronic prescribing system.
* Financial & Resource Management: Oversee medicines budgets, including high-cost drug approvals and invoicing in collaboration with the finance team.
* Staff Development: Mentor and train junior pharmacists, technicians, and other pharmacy staff, including managing pre-registration and diploma students.
Essential Requirements:
* Qualifications: Registered Pharmacist with GPhC; ideally with a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.
* Experience: Substantial hospital experience, particularly in oncology/haematology, with strong familiarity in budget and resource management.
* Skills: Demonstrated leadership, advanced clinical knowledge in oncology, effective communication, and the ability to make critical decisions in patient care.
