Job overview
This is a brilliant opportunity for a dedicated, qualified Midwife who wants to take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care for women and their families. Working on a shift by shift basis, you’ll look after the coordination and effective management of the clinical team and guarantee the maintenance of high standards of quality care in the clinical area. Critically, you’ll participate in the on-call rota for Homebirths and ensure there is effective and sensitive communication between the women in your care, their babies and families, and the health professionals you work with.
Saint Mary’s Managed Clinical Service (MCS) is proud to be the largest maternity service in the country providing care for women and birthing people across Greater Manchester and surrounding areas, supporting around 17,500 births each year, cared for by over 700 whole time equivalent midwives. This role is based at Wythenshawe Hospital covering areas in South Manchester and Trafford.
Main duties of the job
1. Using your well-honed leadership skills, act as a support to the Ward Manager or Team Leader, deputising for them when necessary.
2. Develop and maintain organisational and managerial skills relevant to the ward or department.
3. Implement the Trust’s annual appraisal process and participate and lead in the Improving Quality Programme.
4. Act as a motivating and inspirational mentor for midwives, support staff, and students.
5. Ensure the clinical environment supports education and learning, and that mentorship training is updated annually.
6. Understand and appreciate the cost implications associated with our service and ensure effective resource use.
7. Promote good working relationships with all internal and external departments to provide the best patient journey possible.
