Building Inspector Team Leader – Hybrid – Horsham – minimum 4-month contract
As the Building Inspector Team Leader - a key player in building a safer, more sustainable future - you will spearhead the administrative and technical processes of the Council’s Building Control function where you will manage a small team of dedicated Building Inspectors, shaping the future of clients’ community’s infrastructure. In this dynamic position, you’ll oversee enforcement procedures, ensuring that every member of your team operates at their highest level of competence. Your expertise will guide technical assessments, allowing you to make informed decisions that resonate with your extensive knowledge and practical experience. You will mentor and develop your team, fostering an environment of professionalism that prioritizes compliance and excellence, delivering exceptional Building Control functions across the Council’s jurisdiction and partnering initiatives, ensuring that all buildings adhere to the highest standards of health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility, and design.
Criteria:
- Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator at Classes 2A, B, C, D, E, and F.
- Class 4 Technical Manager and member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent with relevant Building Control bias and evidence of achieving CPD requirement.
- Managerial and decision-making expertise empowering the building control operations and understand the professional boundaries that affect service delivery in local government.
- You possess an in-depth knowledge of legislation, regulations, and professional codes of practice allowing you to navigate the complexities of the Health and Safety at Work Act (etc.) 1974 with ease.
- A solid understanding of construction methods and materials - you have your finger on the pulse of the industry.
- Have the financial savvy to manage chargeable services effectively, always accounting for resources and understanding how financial realities influence their mission.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to maintain precise records and engage effectively with stakeholders.
- You demonstrate remarkable people skills that inspire teamwork and lead with
confidence.
- Ability to conduct thorough research and risk assessments supporting informed
decision-making.
- Proficient in IT, capable of using essential office programs to streamline processes
and enhance productivity.
