Purpose of Role:
Coordinates technical work programs associated with projects with responsibility for delivery of technical objectives. Has a detailed understanding of Synthomer technology and specified business applications, and is able to bring new thinking in these areas. Works closely with a team of other technical staff and is expected to develop working relationships with operational, commercial, and regulatory colleagues to support delivery of business objectives.
Main Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for delivering technical work packages within defined projects, including delegation of work to others where required.
2. Develop new formulations or characterisation capability with the support of experienced scientific staff.
3. Polymer synthesis and characterisation.
4. Apply a high level of scientific rigor to the analysis and assessment of data and to draw and present conclusions.
5. Develop and maintain technology expertise and insight in a relevant technical field.
6. Pro-actively identify, report on and improve safety related issues using available tools and systems.
7. Supporting experienced scientific staff in the competitor and patent watch process.
8. Building a network within wider organisation, e.g., technical, business units, production, etc.
What you'll need to be successful:
* PhD or MSc Degree in Polymer Chemistry or Material Sciences. PhD Graduate or Master Graduate with 3-4 years industry R&D experience. Experience in polymer chemistry, synthesis, and characterisation highly desired.
* Able to develop and maintain technology expertise and insight in a relevant technical field, and to apply it to the development new products / recipes.
* Able to apply a high level of scientific rigor to the analysis and assessment of data, and use it to draw and present conclusions in a Report and oral presentation format.
* Experience in TGA, DSC, DMA, Rheology, GPC techniques.
* Organic or polymer synthesis experience required.
* Understands key confidentiality concepts and the basic anatomy of a patent.
* Understands the basics the regulatory landscape for specific product application areas and can recognise regulatory risks.
