We are hiring a Safety Coordinator for our campus in central London (hybrid working). As a member of the UCL Safety Services Team working alongside other safety advisors and specialists, the main purpose of the role is to provide advice and assistance on safety matters to departments across UCL. This role supports the Head of Safety Governance and Risk in delivering UCL's Health & Safety Strategic Plan.
About you
The following are essential requirements of this role:
* Proven experience in Higher Education, local authority or similar large and complex organisation.
* Hold a recognised health and safety qualification NEBOSH Certificate and demonstrate a good knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.
* Previous experience as a Safety Coordinator or Safety Administrator or similar role.
* Well-developed data, numerical and analytical skills and techniques including the interpretation of KPIs and other metrics.
* Hold IOSH membership, demonstrating a strong commitment to professional development in the field of occupational health and safety.
* Proven ability to write professional, clear and concise material including committee/meeting papers, policies, procedures, reports and presentations.
* Have oversight and coordinate the Assurance programme including audit and inspection schedules.
* Proven consistent ability to meet tight individual and organisational deadlines and to manage own workload through effective prioritising, time management and organisational skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills which enable the post holder to liaise and interact with a variety of people at all levels of the university.
* Self-motivated, able to manage and prioritise own workload and work flexibly to agreed deadlines.
* Willingness and aptitude to undertake a Level 6 health and safety qualification.
* Computer literacy and familiarity with the Microsoft suite of software to an advanced level in Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, PowerBI, and Excel with the ability to understand and use numerical formulae.
* Ability to contribute at a high level to the development and implementation of new strategies and initiatives to improve health and safety practices across the university.
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
