We have a great opportunity to join our education team as a Learning and Support Worker for Novus, our prison education provider at HMP&YOI Stoke Health offered on a permanent, part-time basis working 16 hours per week.
What the role entails
As the Learning and Support Worker, you will be responsible for the carrying out of learner inductions, screening and assessment activities for prospective and existing learners, agreeing support needs and starting points for learning and encouraging and motivating prisoners to engage in education. The position is facilitating a study group for 2 full days a week.

Role Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive, confidential and impartial information services on educational and training opportunities within the establishment.
Facilitate learners to complete assessments and screening, including screening to identify additional learning support needs, using a range of activities including computer-based information and structured discussion as appropriate, action planning and completion of learner compacts.
Contribute to the effective allocation of learners to Education, Skills and Works.
Conduct In depth screeners for learners within commissioned services.
Develop support plans for individual learners indicating key strategies, aids and adaptations to enable progress in learning.
Maintain accurate data, sharing with relevant partners and prison colleagues to ensure learners are supported.
Work with Teachers and learners to develop and apply aids, adaptations, strategies and approaches to respond to individual learners' needs as detailed in their support plan.
Work with learners individually or in a group to engage them in specific programmes or initiatives to develop their skills.
Collect and collate relevant information from a range of internal and external systems.
Promote engagement and signpost leaners to prison departments and other agencies/stakeholders to support a continuous learning journey in custody and in the community.
Ensure that learner records are accurate and maintained in line with GDPR, data protection and LTE Group policies.
Participate in continual professional development activities to ensure skills and qualifications are in line with sector best practice and third-party requirements.
Compliance with LTE Group & stakeholder policies and procedures including GDPR, Data Protection, Health & Safety legislation and prison security requirements.
Understand and follow third party reporting procedures.
Attend and participate in LTE Group and third-party mandatory training.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
Hold Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
Hold Hidden Difficulties Level 2 or equivalent (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
Commit to positive team working
Commit to the achievement of set performance targets
Produce accurate and timely reporting
Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups (Desirable)
Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities (Desirable)
Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team (Desirable)
