Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Oxfam GB is seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), reporting directly to the Chief Executive. This is an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of Oxfam GB, driving financial strategy and transformation to maximise our impact in the UK and internationally.
The Role
As CFO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering an effective financial strategy for Oxfam GB’s UK and international work, partnering with colleagues across the global Oxfam confederation. You will ensure financial stability, strong governance, and strategic resource allocation to support our mission. More than financial management, this role is about leading transformation, driving digital innovation, and ensuring we remain adaptive in an evolving global landscape. Importantly, you'll continue to ensure that every pound donated or spent in our stores is used effectively, maximizing our impact for those who rely on us.
As a key member of the SLT, you will collaborate closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees, and senior leaders across Oxfam, providing strategic financial leadership that balances innovation, efficiency, and ethical governance. You will also lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Play a full part in the Strategic Leadership Team at Oxfam GB, contributing to strategic and operational decision-making.
2. Work closely with Oxfam's wider leadership teams in the continued development of strategic planning and budgeting.
3. Lead high-performing division to ensure continued drive on improvements in efficiency and productivity, income raising, and control measures.
4. Inspire, lead, and manage the teams on a day-to-day basis to continue performing and delivering against agreed-upon plans.
5. Work closely with confederation colleagues and other Oxfam affiliates to advise on strategy, financial flows, and establishment of the new global operating model.
6. Oversee Oxfam GB’s two trading subsidiaries, ensuring appropriate tax structuring for the group and compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
7. Deliver the audit and annual accounts for the group companies.
8. Represent Oxfam with external partners, stakeholders and across the charity sector.
9. Role model our commitment to anti-racism, feminism, and shifting power.
Essential Skills & Experience
1. Previous substantial experience working in a senior management position within a large and complex multi-disciplinary organisation.
2. Fully Qualified Accountant (CCAB, CIMA, ACA).
3. Experience in influencing at the Board and Trustee Levels.
4. Proven ability to horizon scan and interpret national, political, financial, and other developments as they impact the finances of the organisation, ensuring a proactive approach and advising/informing Strategic Leadership Team and Board level.
5. Ability to lead and inspire teams, effectively engaging all levels of the organisation.
6. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and gender equality, as well as commitment to diversity and inclusion in leadership.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions based on analysis of issues and systems.
8. High levels of integrity in line with expectations of the accountancy profession.
Desirable Skills & Experience
1. Experience in charity or non-profit financial reporting standards.
2. Understanding of legal and governance oversight.
3. Experience in investment portfolio management.
4. Knowledge of digital finance transformation and process optimisation.
