Health Care Assistant, Special Care Baby unit, Carlisle, Band 3 - 36 hours available
This is a wonderful opportunity to work with families and their preterm or sick babies during the period directly following delivery. The Role of the HCA will be to assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care. You will be expected to complete all relevant training in line with the trust, regional and national guidelines, you will be supported in this by the Special Care Baby unit. We are a small welcoming team who will support you in your professional development.
Main duties of the job
1. To work alongside registered nurses to ensure the highest quality of patient care. Ensuring individualised care is provided to baby's and their families.
2. Extend scope of practice when trained and deemed competent autonomously undertake appropriate clinical procedures relevant to the clinical area ensuring documentation is completed appropriately following procedure.
3. Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths or Equivalent
* NVQ 3 in care (willingness to complete within one year of start date) or equivalent experience
* Care Certificate
Experience
* Recent experience in a health or social care setting.
* Experience of care in a neonatal setting.
Knowledge
* Continuing professional development with portfolio.
* Safeguarding awareness.
* Equality issues.
* Other relevant learning.
Skills and Aptitudes
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
