We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital. St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics). The Trust also plays an active role in the local healthcare economy. Surrey Downs Health and Care brings together our staff, CSH and the GP groups in Surrey Downs, and Surrey County Council in a partnership to improve care for local people. Also health and care teams from organisations (the London Borough of Sutton, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Sutton GP services, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust) across Sutton that provide care to Sutton’s older population are coming together to work as one team. The team will ensure people have the right support in place for them to maintain their independence and live healthily and safely at home for as long as possible.
Main duties of the job
In consultation with the treating clinician select, apply, remove and maintain casts made of plaster, plastic resins or other materials in the Plaster room or within other wards or departments at Epsom and St Helier Hospital.
2. To measure and apply braces and splints according to requests.
3. To ensure that limbs are correctly positioned before, during and after the application of casts.
4. Apply and remove all plaster casts without direct supervision.
5. Provide information to patients and their carers on all aspect of care for their casts/splints in relation to their condition, both oral and written.
6. Recognise symptoms of wound infections or inflammations and report to the nurse in charge.
7.Patients are to be treated with dignity, respect and discretion at all times.
8. Maintain confidentiality of information promoting and supporting individual rights and choices, acknowledging personal beliefs, identify and supporting them through effective communication.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
10. Deal promptly with telephone enquiries and take the necessary action to assist the caller.
11. Act as chaperone to patients during their consultation as required.
12. To escort patients to other departments as required.
13. Contribute to the orientation of new members of staff in the clinic.
14. Participate in teaching other members of staff including medical and nursing staff
15. Participate in further studies and study days to maintain up to date knowledge and skills.
16. Maintain stores and housekeeping duties.
17. Comply to the maintenance of security of the premises and the content and to the limitation of fire risk.
18. Comply with Trust policies.
19. The post holder is also required to adhere to adhere to District Codes of Practice and Local Procedures laid down for personal hygiene, food handling and cleaning and attend relevant training programmes.
