Band B Senior Dental Officer in Paediatric Dentistry
We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious individual with significant experience in paediatric dentistry to join the Paediatric Dentistry Team in Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust. There are two roles (2 WTE) available, one will be based in Dudley and the second based in Birmingham.
This is a Consultant lead specialist service providing high quality dentistry to anxious children and children with special needs, in multiple sites across Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Dudley. The service also provides mobile dental services at selected schools. General anaesthetic care is provided at Walsall Manor and Sandwell General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The main job role is to provide senior support based in Birmingham and Dudley providing specialised dental care for children who fulfil the acceptance criteria for community paediatric dentistry. Alongside this the senior dental officer is expected to work with the other senior dental officers taking a lead role in areas such as the dental mobile, line management and the development of staff, undergraduate dental student and therapy teaching, clinical governance, audit and dental sedation and the general anaesthetic service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent
* Vocational training or equivalent if non UK graduate
* Eligibility for inclusion on NHS Dental Performer List
* Evidence of relevant CPD being undertaken regularly
* Possession of a registrable postgraduate qualification
* Postgraduate certificate in medical education or paediatric dentistry
Experience
* Substantial experience in providing treatment to children under inhalation sedation
* Substantial experience in treatment of children with complex needs
* Experience in teaching and training dentists and DCPs
* Experience in providing treatment under IV sedation and general anaesthetic.
* Evidence of leadership, service development and project management
Skills/Knowledge
* High quality clinical skills in paediatric dentistry
* Ability to make clinical decisions appropriate to experience and qualifications
* Ability to work on own initiative
* Excellent organisational skills
* Evidence of ability to engage with a team and achieve effective teamwork
* Ability to prioritise tasks, delegate effectively and manage own time
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* IT skills, computer literate in a Windows environment and willingness to learn new software
