The Role:
We have an opportunity for a Senior Civil Underground Engineer to be based in Reading on a staff basis.
We work on a variety of projects including carbon capture, hydrogen power, waste to energy, biofuels, recycling, petrochemical, and oil & gas.
1. Responsible for the design/engineering of underground and overground drainage systems and networks, developing drainage design solutions, capable of terrain modelling, conducting flood risk studies, and preparing earthwork and site preparation design.
2. Responsible for assessing the design of existing underground and overground drainage systems and networks, developing drainage design/engineering solutions.
3. Responsible for carrying out design studies and preparing project-related design calculations, drawings, and documents such as basis of design, philosophies, specifications, etc.
4. Responsible for reviewing, checking, and commenting on drawings and supervising designers in the preparation of drawings in accordance with Wood and Client technical work practices and standards.
5. Responsible for ensuring that all design/engineering activities are carried out within stipulated man-hour budgets and time schedules.
6. Within the area of responsibility, manage work progress and schedule, prepare progress reports.
7. Advise Lead Engineer of any technical issues, schedule slippages, their causes, and proposed corrective actions.
8. Assist in the preparation of any contract requisitions and schedules of quantity for work on assigned projects.
9. Work with inter-disciplinary teams on the project to deliver suitable designs. Liaise with clients and construction personnel on site and address technical queries.
10. Within the area of responsibility, prepare estimates, MTOs, and estimate basis memos.
11. Keep abreast of the project strategy and key drivers, participate in Model Reviews as required, and report changes to the Lead Designer/Lead Engineer.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Civil Engineering Degree.
2. Good understanding of drainage design/engineering systems to national and international standards.
3. Experience in a similar position, preferably within the oil/gas or petrochemical industry.
4. Experience in using drainage design tools including Microdrainage.
5. Experience in developing computer model simulations of drainage systems.
6. EPC and procurement experience advantageous.
7. Technically strong, self-motivated individual able to work with the minimum of supervision.
8. Proven ability to engage in effective dealings with both clients and contractors.
